reviewing the review

One big disappointment this year has been the future of the Caribbean Review of Books (CRB). We've kept it going for five years, at a loss, but it has not attracted the advertising or subscription support to be self-sustaining, and we can't go on subsidising it.

The CRB has been made into a non-profit organisation, and last year received very welcome financial support from the Prince Claus Fund in The Netherlands. But without the backing of publishers, libraries, book distributors and readers, its future looks bleak.

At least, in print form. Editor Nicholas Laughlin is hoping to transform the CRB into an online publication with a new business model. We'll post further news here as things develop, and no doubt Nicholas will do the same at Antilles, the CRB's own blog.

Meanwhile, sincere apologies to CRB subscribers, and we ask you to stay with us while we work out a viable way of keeping the CRB going. Current subscribers will carry their credit forward to the new CRB. Naturally, if any subscriber would like the unexpired portion of a subscription refunded, please contact us at MEP.
